On several occasions, especially during extreme tides and severe weather, the Department has rescued stranded motorists and responded to Lloyd Neck calls when the water cutsthe peninsula off from the mainland.
The Committee is pursuing a military surplus high water access vehicle to enable firefighters to respond to such emergencies through the water without damaging the vehicle or endangering personnel. Once purchased, the Huntington Fire Department will refit the vehicle to make it emergency response ready.
